Mount Meru Climb Tours 2026, 2027 & 2028 – Packages Private Trek Packages

Mount Meru is one of the most underrated mountains in Africa. Meru is one of Africa’s highest and most beautiful volcanoes with unrivaled views from the summit. The route to the summit passes through parkland, montane forest, a giant heather zone, and moorland. Finally, the summit is reached by a narrow, barren ridge which provides stunning views of the Ash Cone lying several thousand feet below in the crater and Kilimanjaro in the background. Over 400 species of birds, elephant, buffalo, baboon, warthog, black and white Colobus monkey, and duiker are all found in this delightful gem amongst parks.

Discover the beauty of Mount Meru, Tanzania’s second-highest mountain and one of East Africa’s most rewarding trekking adventures. Rising to 4,566 meters, this dormant stratovolcano is located in the heart of Arusha National Park, just 70 kilometers west of Mount Kilimanjaro. With breathtaking landscapes, abundant wildlife, and spectacular summit views, the Mount Meru climb is the perfect adventure for hikers seeking an unforgettable experience or preparing for a Kilimanjaro expedition.
Unlike the busy Kilimanjaro routes, Mount Meru offers a quieter, more intimate trekking experience. The trail winds through lush forests, open heathlands, dramatic volcanic landscapes, and along the rim of a spectacular crater before reaching Socialist Peak, where panoramic sunrise views reveal Mount Kilimanjaro standing proudly on the horizon.

Facts About Climbing Mount Meru

Unlike Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru has only one official climbing route the Momella Route. Climbers can complete the trek in three or four days, with both options reaching Socialist Peak at 4,566 metres. Although Mount Meru is lower than Kilimanjaro, the steep trails and demanding summit night make it a challenging climb.
The four-day itinerary offers a more comfortable descent and additional time to enjoy the mountain’s beautiful scenery. Travellers with limited time can also choose a Mount Meru day hike, exploring lush forests, waterfalls and wildlife-rich areas on the lower slopes. With fewer visitors than Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru provides a quieter and more peaceful trekking experience.
