The Machame Route starts at Machame Gate on Kilimanjaro’s southern side. It passes through rainforest, moorland and alpine desert before the final ascent from Barafu Camp. Climbers camp in tents along the trail; there are no overnight huts on this route.

Both the 6 and 7 day climbs take you past Shira Plateau, Barranco Valley and the Barranco Wall. The main difference is the time allowed before summit night. Check the exact camp sequence because itinerary details can vary.
