6 Days Detailed Itinerary
This sample itinerary is structured to give guests a strong mid-range migration safari experience with practical routing, comfortable overnights, and enough wildlife time to enjoy Serengeti at a better pace.
Day 1
Arusha to Karatu / Ngorongoro Highlands
After breakfast, meet your professional safari guide in Arusha and begin the journey toward Karatu or the Ngorongoro highlands. This first overnight is planned to make the route more comfortable and to reduce the long driving pressure before entering Serengeti.
Along the way, guests enjoy changing scenery, rural Tanzania landscapes, and safari briefing support from the guide. It is a calm opening day that prepares the trip well for the longer wildlife section ahead.
Suggested overnight: Marera Valley Lodge / Eileen’s Trees Inn / similar
Day 2
Karatu to Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, continue toward Serengeti National Park. The journey becomes more exciting as the landscapes open wider and wildlife sightings begin to appear on the way into the ecosystem. Depending on the season, your guide will steer the safari toward the most promising migration area for your travel month.
Enjoy an afternoon game drive while heading to camp. This first Serengeti session often introduces guests to giraffes, zebra, antelope, elephants, lions, and the wide open plains that make Serengeti one of Africa’s best-known safari destinations.
Suggested overnight: Serengeti Heritage Camp / Kati Kati Tented Camp / similar
Day 3
Full Day Serengeti Migration Safari
Today is dedicated to a full-day game drive focused on the migration and resident wildlife. With picnic lunch and flexible guiding, the day is arranged to maximize park time and allow your guide to follow the most active wildlife zones based on the season, herd movement, and road conditions.
This is one of the most valuable days of the safari because guests are fully inside the Serengeti rhythm. Expect opportunities to look for wildebeest, zebra, hyenas, lions, elephants, and many other species while enjoying the dramatic scale of the ecosystem.
Suggested overnight: Into Wild Africa Camp / Serengeti Safari Haven / similar
Day 4
Second Full Day Migration Tracking in Serengeti
A second full day in the park adds major value to the package. Migration movement is not static, and this extra time gives your guide a stronger chance to adjust the route based on fresh sightings and changing herd position. It also creates a richer experience for guests interested in photography and longer wildlife observation.
This day can be especially rewarding when predator action increases around the herds or when the migration is spread across a broader area. With more time available, the safari feels deeper and less rushed than shorter options.
Suggested overnight: Mid-range seasonal migration camp / tented camp / similar
Day 5
Morning Serengeti Game Drive and Transfer to Karatu
After breakfast, enjoy a final Serengeti wildlife session before leaving the park and travelling toward Karatu or the highlands. This structure keeps one more active game drive in the itinerary while also making the final return much more comfortable for guests.
In the evening, settle into your lodge, relax, enjoy dinner, and reflect on the safari experience. This overnight stop is practical, comfortable, and ideal for travellers who prefer a smoother final day.
Suggested overnight: Country Lodge Karatu / Marera Valley Lodge / similar
Day 6
Karatu to Arusha / Departure
After breakfast, drive back to Arusha where the safari ends with hotel drop-off or support for onward airport arrangements. Guests who want a longer holiday can continue into Zanzibar, Ngorongoro, or a Kilimanjaro combination depending on their overall Tanzania travel plan.
