Day 1
Arrival in Arusha / Kilimanjaro Airport
On arrival in northern Tanzania, you will be welcomed by the Tanzania Adventures Group team and transferred to your hotel in Arusha for rest and safari briefing. This first day is designed to be smooth and light, allowing you to recover from travel and prepare for the safari ahead.
Depending on your arrival time, you may relax at the lodge, review the route with your safari consultant, and receive an overview of the likely migration area for your dates. This helps guests understand how the safari will be shaped around wildlife movement and seasonal planning.
Suggested overnight: Arusha Planet Lodge / Forest Hill Hotel / similar
Day 2
Arusha to Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, begin the safari with a drive to Tarangire National Park. This park is known for elephants, baobab trees, open savannah, and strong wildlife density, making it an excellent introduction to the northern Tanzania circuit before the migration-focused Serengeti section begins.
Enjoy game drives through the park with the chance to see elephants, giraffes, zebras, antelope, lions, and a wide variety of birdlife. In the afternoon, continue toward Karatu or a nearby lodge area for dinner and overnight.
Suggested overnight: Marera Valley Lodge / Eileen’s Trees Inn / similar
Day 3
Karatu to Central Serengeti
Today the journey continues toward Serengeti National Park through the highlands and the wider ecosystem approach. As the landscapes open wider, guests begin to feel the scale that makes Serengeti one of Africa’s most iconic safari destinations.
After entering the park, enjoy your first Serengeti game drive while heading toward camp. Even on arrival day, guests often begin seeing wildebeest, zebra, gazelles, giraffes, elephants, hyenas, and possibly lions depending on the wildlife activity in the area.
Suggested overnight: Serengeti Heritage Camp / Kati Kati Tented Camp / similar
Day 4
Full Day Serengeti Migration Safari
Today is a full game-drive day in Serengeti with the program focused around migration movement. Your guide will use the best seasonal route for your travel period, choosing areas where herd concentration, predator activity, and overall wildlife viewing are strongest.
With picnic lunch and a flexible full-day schedule, this day is ideal for travellers who want time for photography, extended wildlife observation, and a deeper Serengeti experience than shorter safari packages can offer.
Suggested overnight: Into Wild Africa Camp / Serengeti Safari Haven / similar
Day 5
Second Full Day Serengeti Migration Tracking
A second full safari day in Serengeti adds major value because the migration is always moving and conditions change daily. Your safari guide can adjust the route according to fresh sightings, herd location, weather, and local movement patterns.
This is often the day when guests enjoy their most memorable safari moments, especially if they are interested in predator interactions, large herd scenes, or a more complete understanding of how the Serengeti ecosystem works during migration months.
Suggested overnight: Kon Tiki Serengeti Camp / Thorn Tree Camp / similar
Day 6
Third Serengeti Game Drive Day in Seasonal Migration Zone
After breakfast, continue with another migration-focused game drive. This extra day makes the itinerary especially strong because it gives more flexibility to explore a second nearby area or stay longer in the most productive zone depending on seasonal wildlife patterns.
Guests who travel during the major movement periods often appreciate this added time because it improves the chances of following herd lines, observing predator behavior, and enjoying the wider Serengeti plains without feeling rushed.
Suggested overnight: Mid-range seasonal tented camp in Serengeti / similar
Day 7
Morning Serengeti Game Drive and Transfer to Karatu
Enjoy a final morning game drive in Serengeti before beginning the return drive toward Karatu or the Ngorongoro highlands. This helps the safari end with active wildlife viewing rather than only transfer time, while also making the final travel day more comfortable.
In the evening, arrive at your lodge in Karatu for dinner and overnight. This is a good time to rest, sort photographs, and reflect on the migration experience before returning to Arusha the next day.
Suggested overnight: Marera Valley Lodge / Country Lodge Karatu / similar
Day 8
Karatu to Arusha / Departure
After breakfast, drive back to Arusha where the safari ends with airport transfer or hotel drop-off depending on your onward arrangements. Guests who wish to extend their Tanzania holiday can continue to Zanzibar, Kilimanjaro, or a longer wildlife circuit.
Travellers comparing trip lengths can also explore related journeys such as a shorter mid-range migration safari, a Kilimanjaro combination, or a longer seasonal migration route depending on time and budget.
