Day 1: Arusha to Karatu
Route: Arusha → Mto wa Mbu → Karatu
Your safari starts with pickup in Arusha and a scenic drive toward Karatu, the gateway to the Ngorongoro highlands and the western safari route into Serengeti. This first day is planned to give you a comfortable start and proper positioning before the longer journey into the park begins.
After arrival, check in at your lodge, enjoy dinner, and receive a safari briefing about current migration movement, road flow, and the best expectations for wildlife viewing during the river crossing season.
Day 2: Karatu to Central Serengeti
Route: Karatu → Ngorongoro Conservation Area → Central Serengeti
After breakfast, travel through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and continue toward Central Serengeti. The drive itself becomes part of the safari as the scenery opens from highland forest and crater views to wide plains rich in wildlife.
Arriving in Central Serengeti, enjoy an afternoon game drive in one of Tanzania’s most productive safari zones. This area is known for year-round wildlife, resident predators, and excellent chances of lion, leopard, hyena, and large herbivore sightings. Dinner and overnight are in Central Serengeti.
Day 3: Central Serengeti to Northern Serengeti
Route: Central Serengeti → Northern Serengeti
After an early breakfast, continue with a game drive transfer toward Northern Serengeti. This is an exciting transition day because wildlife can be excellent along the route, and the landscape gradually changes as you move closer to the Mara River ecosystem.
By afternoon, you arrive in the northern section of the park, where the Great Migration often concentrates during the river crossing season. Depending on herd movement, your guide will position the drive around known crossing zones and nearby grazing areas. Dinner and overnight are in Northern Serengeti.
Day 4: Full Day Northern Serengeti River Crossing Safari
Focus: Mara River, migration herds, crocodiles, big cats
This full day is dedicated to exploring the Northern Serengeti in search of the Great Migration and possible river crossing activity. Crossings are never guaranteed because wildlife moves naturally, but spending dedicated time in this zone greatly improves the opportunity to witness herds gathering, hesitating, and eventually crossing the Mara River.
Beyond crossings, the north also offers outstanding wildlife viewing with lion, elephant, giraffe, topi, eland, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife. Your guide will adapt the route throughout the day according to the freshest wildlife reports and local movement patterns.
Day 5: Another Full Day in Northern Serengeti
Focus: Extended migration tracking and premium game viewing time
A second full day in the north adds major value to the program because river crossing activity is unpredictable and can happen at different times. More time in the area means a stronger chance of being present when herd behavior becomes active near the riverbanks.
In addition to tracking the migration, the day offers excellent opportunities for photography, large landscape viewing, and observing predator behavior around the migration corridors. This extra northern stay is one of the strongest features of the itinerary.
Day 6: Northern Serengeti to Central Serengeti
Route: Northern Serengeti → Central Serengeti
After breakfast, depart Northern Serengeti with a game drive en route back toward Central Serengeti. This return journey is not only a transfer but also another rewarding safari day, with wildlife sightings possible across multiple habitats.
Arriving in Central Serengeti, enjoy a relaxed evening at camp or lodge. This overnight break makes the return journey smoother while giving you one more night inside the Serengeti ecosystem.
Day 7: Central Serengeti to Arusha
Route: Central Serengeti → Ngorongoro → Arusha
After breakfast, depart Serengeti and return through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area toward Arusha. This final day marks the end of your safari, with drop-off at your hotel, airport, or another agreed point in Arusha.
For guests who want a longer holiday, the itinerary can be extended with Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire, Lake Manyara, or Zanzibar beach relaxation after the safari.
