Day 1
Arrival in Arusha
On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, you will be welcomed by Tanzania Adventures Group and transferred to your hotel in Arusha. The first day is reserved for rest, safari briefing, and final preparation for the journey ahead. It also gives time to review the route, luggage needs, and travel expectations for the coming days.
Depending on arrival time, you may relax at the lodge and prepare for the start of the expedition on the following morning. Dinner and overnight are in Arusha.
Suggested accommodation: Charity Hotel, Outpost Lodge, or a similar affordable hotel in Arusha.
Day 2
Arusha to Tarangire National Park, then Karatu
After breakfast, depart Arusha and drive to Tarangire National Park for your first game drive. Tarangire is known for its giant baobab trees, broad elephant herds, and excellent early safari atmosphere. Wildlife may include zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, impalas, warthogs, buffalo, and predators depending on the season.
After a picnic lunch and afternoon wildlife viewing, continue toward Karatu for dinner and overnight. This creates a practical route while keeping the safari affordable and well positioned for the next park.
Suggested accommodation: Eileen’s Trees Inn, Kudu Lodge, or a similar affordable lodge in Karatu.
Day 3
Lake Manyara National Park
Today visit Lake Manyara National Park, one of the most scenic parks on the Northern Circuit. The park is famous for its groundwater forest, escarpment views, lake edge habitats, monkeys, elephants, hippos, and abundant birdlife. It adds a strong ecological contrast to the journey after Tarangire.
A full day in this park helps broaden the expedition experience by combining forest, open areas, and lakeside scenery in one compact but rewarding wildlife environment. Return to Karatu for dinner and overnight.
Suggested accommodation: Eileen’s Trees Inn, Kudu Lodge, or a similar affordable lodge in Karatu.
Day 4
Karatu to Central Serengeti
After breakfast, drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area toward Serengeti National Park. The changing scenery itself is part of the experience, from highland views to the open plains that make Serengeti world famous. Wildlife sightings may begin before you even reach the main game drive zones.
Enter Central Serengeti and enjoy an afternoon game drive on the way to camp or lodge. This region is especially strong for predators and resident wildlife, making it one of the most productive safari zones in Tanzania.
Suggested accommodation: Tukaone Serengeti Camp, Kontiki Serengeti Camp, or a similar affordable tented camp in Central Serengeti.
Day 5
Full Day Game Drive in Central Serengeti
Spend the day exploring the Seronera area of Central Serengeti, where permanent water and year-round wildlife create excellent conditions for game viewing. You may search for lions on kopjes, leopards in acacia trees, cheetahs on open ground, and large mixed herds across the plains.
Because this is a full day in the park, your guide can focus on the most promising wildlife locations rather than rushing between stops. It is one of the strongest photography and predator-search days of the itinerary.
Suggested accommodation: Tukaone Serengeti Camp, Kontiki Serengeti Camp, or similar affordable tented camp in Central Serengeti.
Day 6
Second Full Day in Central Serengeti
A second full day in Central Serengeti gives the itinerary a much deeper safari character. Instead of treating the park as a quick stop, this program allows time to follow animal movement patterns, revisit productive areas, and explore more of the central plains.
This extra day improves the overall value of the expedition and often leads to more memorable sightings because the schedule stays flexible around real wildlife activity rather than a fixed transfer plan.
Suggested accommodation: Tukaone Serengeti Camp, Kontiki Serengeti Camp, or similar affordable tented camp in Central Serengeti.
Day 7
Central Serengeti to Northern Serengeti
After breakfast, continue northward through Serengeti on a game drive that gradually shifts the landscape toward the more remote northern sector. This part of the route gives the expedition a broader range and increases the feeling of covering a larger portion of Tanzania’s most iconic park.
Northern Serengeti is especially attractive during the migration season and is also known for its quieter atmosphere, dramatic landscapes, and river environments. Arrive at camp in time for dinner and overnight.
Suggested accommodation: Heritage Mara Camp, Mara Heritage Camp, or a similar affordable tented camp in Northern Serengeti.
Day 8
Full Day in Northern Serengeti
Spend the day exploring the northern region of Serengeti. During migration months, this area is famous for dramatic river crossing activity, but even outside peak crossing periods it remains a beautiful and rewarding wildlife zone with big cats, elephants, giraffes, antelope, and broad open scenery.
The more remote atmosphere of this area adds a true expedition feel to the journey. It is a valuable contrast to Central Serengeti and helps make the safari longer, richer, and more geographically varied.
Suggested accommodation: Heritage Mara Camp, Mara Heritage Camp, or a similar affordable tented camp in Northern Serengeti.
Day 9
Northern Serengeti to Central Serengeti
After breakfast, begin the return journey south through Serengeti with game viewing along the way. This transit day is still highly rewarding because the movement between regions often reveals new wildlife activity and different landscapes at varying times of day.
Arrive back in Central Serengeti for dinner and overnight, creating a practical transition before leaving the parklands for the crater and highlands.
Suggested accommodation: Tukaone Serengeti Camp, Kontiki Serengeti Camp, or a similar affordable tented camp in Central Serengeti.
Day 10
Serengeti to Ngorongoro Highlands via Olduvai Area
Enjoy a final Serengeti game drive while exiting the park and heading toward the Ngorongoro Highlands. This day can include a scenic stop in the Olduvai Gorge area or nearby viewpoints depending on the timing and operational arrangement.
Reaching the highlands by evening places you close to the crater gate for an early descent on the following day. The cooler air and elevated scenery offer a refreshing shift after the open plains.
Suggested accommodation: Rhino Lodge, Ngorongoro Safari Lodge budget room, or a similar affordable stay near the crater access area.
Day 11
Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive to Karatu
Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for one of the great highlights of Tanzania wildlife travel. The crater floor offers dense wildlife concentration in a spectacular volcanic setting, often including buffalo, lions, hyenas, zebra, wildebeest, hippos, and a possible black rhino sighting.
After the game drive and picnic lunch, ascend and continue to Karatu for dinner and overnight. This day combines some of the strongest wildlife viewing of the whole expedition with one of East Africa’s most dramatic natural settings.
Suggested accommodation: Eileen’s Trees Inn, Kudu Lodge, or a similar affordable lodge in Karatu.
Day 12
Lake Eyasi Nature and Cultural Excursion
Today travel to the Lake Eyasi area for a change of atmosphere from the classic safari parks. This destination is known for its dry lake environment, dramatic landscapes, birdlife, and traditional communities such as the Hadzabe and Datoga. It adds a more human and cultural dimension to the wider expedition.
The day may include village interaction, cultural exposure, and scenic exploration depending on the operating plan. Return to Karatu in the evening for overnight.
Suggested accommodation: Eileen’s Trees Inn, Kudu Lodge, or a similar affordable lodge in Karatu.
Day 13
Return to Arusha and Departure
After breakfast, drive back to Arusha. Depending on your onward plans, you may be transferred to the airport, a town hotel, or another post-safari arrangement. The return journey provides time to reflect on a long and varied wildlife experience across northern Tanzania.
By the end of the expedition, guests have explored major national parks, spent meaningful time in Serengeti, experienced the Ngorongoro Crater, and added a cultural landscape element that makes the trip feel broader than a standard safari route.
Suggested end-of-tour option: Airport transfer, Arusha hotel day room, or extra overnight can be arranged on request.
