Day 1
Arrival in Arusha
On arrival in Arusha, you will be welcomed by Tanzania Adventures Group and transferred to your hotel for rest and safari briefing. This first day is kept light to help you recover from travel and prepare for the long safari ahead.
Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy a relaxed evening at the lodge and receive a detailed overview of the migration safari route.
Suggested overnight: Arusha Planet Lodge / Forest Hill Hotel / similar
Day 2
Arusha to Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, depart for Tarangire National Park for your first full wildlife experience. Tarangire is famous for its elephant herds, baobab landscapes, and strong dry-season game viewing, making it a beautiful opening to the safari.
Enjoy game drives through the park before continuing to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Suggested overnight: Tarangire Simba Lodge / Sangaiwe Tented Lodge / similar
Day 3
Tarangire to Karatu / Ngorongoro Highlands
Today the safari continues toward Karatu or the Ngorongoro highlands. This transition day keeps the safari route comfortable while positioning you for the longer Serengeti section ahead.
The drive offers changing scenery and a chance to enjoy the cultural and agricultural landscape of northern Tanzania.
Suggested overnight: Marera Valley Lodge / Eileen’s Trees Inn / similar
Day 4
Karatu to Central Serengeti
Depart after breakfast and continue toward Serengeti National Park. The drive into Serengeti is part of the safari itself, with wildlife often appearing before you even reach camp.
Once inside the park, enjoy an en-route game drive while heading toward your camp in the migration zone.
Suggested overnight: Serengeti Heritage Camp / Thorn Tree Camp / similar
Day 5
Full Day Serengeti Migration Safari
Spend the day exploring the Serengeti with picnic lunch and migration-focused game driving. Your guide will follow the most productive wildlife areas for the season, giving you good opportunities for herd sightings and predator encounters.
The long game-drive day allows you to enjoy the open plains properly and appreciate the rhythm of the Serengeti ecosystem.
Suggested overnight: Kati Kati Tented Camp / Serengeti Safari Haven / similar
Day 6
Second Full Day in Serengeti
A second full day in Serengeti adds excellent value to the safari. The migration is always moving, and extra time in the park increases your chances of seeing stronger herd concentrations, predator action, and dramatic wildlife moments.
This day is also very rewarding for photographers and guests who enjoy longer observation rather than short stops.
Suggested overnight: Into Wild Africa Camp / Kon Tiki Serengeti Camp / similar
Day 7
Migration Tracking Between Serengeti Sectors
Today your guide can use the extra flexibility of this longer itinerary to adjust the safari route between productive Serengeti sectors. Depending on season, this can mean moving north, west, south, or staying central where wildlife activity remains strongest.
This flexible design is one of the biggest advantages of the 12-day itinerary because it makes the safari more responsive to real conditions.
Suggested overnight: Mobile migration camp / seasonal tented camp / similar
Day 8
Full Day in the Migration Zone
Enjoy another extended Serengeti safari day in the most productive migration area for your dates. This may include following the herds across open plains, river systems, or predator-rich zones depending on where the movement is strongest.
With a longer itinerary, you are not forced to rush, which helps create a more premium and rewarding safari experience.
Suggested overnight: Seasonal migration camp / Serengeti tented camp / similar
Day 9
Another Full Serengeti Game Drive
Continue with a full day game drive in Serengeti. By this stage of the safari, you are fully immersed in the wildlife rhythm and can enjoy the park more deeply, with more patience for tracking, observation, and scenic stops.
This day is perfect for travellers who want to maximize their time in the Serengeti rather than simply passing through.
Suggested overnight: Luxury or mid-range tented camp depending on package level
Day 10
Final Serengeti Safari Day
Today gives you one more valuable Serengeti safari day before exiting the park. Your guide can focus on the most promising wildlife area based on the previous days’ movement and sightings.
This final full wildlife day often becomes one of the most memorable parts of the journey because the extra time in the park improves flexibility and wildlife success.
Suggested overnight: Serengeti camp / lodge in chosen migration sector
Day 11
Serengeti to Karatu / Ngorongoro Highlands
After breakfast and a final morning wildlife session, begin the transfer out of Serengeti toward Karatu or the Ngorongoro highlands. This gives the itinerary a comfortable finish and avoids a very long direct return to Arusha.
Arrive at the lodge for dinner, rest, and your last safari overnight in northern Tanzania.
Suggested overnight: Farm of Dreams Lodge / Marera Valley Lodge / similar
Day 12
Karatu to Arusha / Departure
After breakfast, drive back to Arusha for airport drop-off or hotel transfer depending on your onward plans. This marks the end of your 12 Days Serengeti Migration Safari Package.
Guests who want an even longer holiday can extend with Zanzibar beach relaxation or additional nights in northern Tanzania.
