Tour Itinerary

Trip

Day 0: Arrive in Tanzania

You will be picked up at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your hotel in Moshi town. Upon arrival, you’ll meet your guide, who will brief you on the upcoming trek and conduct an equipment check to ensure you have all the necessary mountain gear. If anything is missing, you can rent gear on this day. Hotel Accommodation in Moshi: Panama Garden Resort Tanzania.

Day 1: Machame Gate (1800m) – Machame Camp (3000m)

After breakfast, transport will take you to Machame Gate. From the gate, the trail leads through fertile, cultivated land before rising through the lush and humid mountain rainforest. The path gradually ascends up to Machame Camp, where you’ll spend your first night on the mountain. This trek takes about 5 hours.

Day 2: Machame Camp (3000m) – Shira Camp (3880m)

Today, the trek continues through dense busch forests and moorland, passing powerful lava bridges along the way. The landscape gradually transforms as you ascend, and by noon, you’ll encounter the first sightings of Seneca’s and lobelia plants. The day will be misty and filled with dense fog, but the beauty of the Shira Plateau awaits at Shira Camp.

Day 3: Shira Camp (3880m) – Barranco Camp (3980m)

Today's hike leads through a barren, almost vegetation-free lava rock desert, providing the first close-up views of Mount Kilimanjaro. After passing the Lava Tower (4450m), you’ll descend into the Barranco Valley, a highlight of the Machame Route with its unique alpine vegetation. This section is filled with awe-inspiring scenery. Trekking time is about 5-7 hours.

Day 4: Barranco Camp (3980m) – Karanga Camp (4033m)

After breakfast, we leave Barranco and continue steeply up the Barranco Wall. This is a challenging section of the trek, but it offers breathtaking views. We head towards the Karanga Valley campsite, a short yet important day for acclimatization. The trek takes about 3 hours, giving you ample time to rest and prepare for the next stage.

Day 5: Karanga Camp (4033m) – Barafu Camp (4673m)

After breakfast, we head from Karanga to the junction with the Mweka Trail, then continue uphill to Barafu Camp. At this point, you’ll have completed the South Circuit, offering panoramic views of both the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. You’ll rest, have dinner, and prepare for the challenging summit day ahead.

Day 6: Barafu Camp – Summit – Mweka Camp

Very early in the morning (midnight to 2 am), you begin the trek to the summit, passing the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. The ascent to Stella Point is mentally and physically demanding, but as the sun rises over the crater rim, the reward is spectacular. From Stella Point, continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating the summit, you’ll descend to Barafu for lunch, then continue to Mweka Camp for rest. This long day lasts 13-15 hours in total.

Day 7: Mweka Camp (3100m) – Mweka Gate (1800m)

The final day takes you downhill through the dense, slippery cloud forest to Mweka Gate. This trek takes approximately 5 hours. Upon reaching the gate, you’ll receive your well-earned summit certificate. Afterward, you will be transported back to your hotel in Moshi for a well-deserved rest and celebration of your achievement.
