Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

Elevation: 1,870 meters to 2,720 meters (6,135 feet to 8,923 feet)

Distance: 8 km (5 miles)

Hiking Time: 4-5 hours

After registering at the Marangu Gate, you'll begin your trek through the lush rainforest, where you'll see a variety of wildlife and unique vegetation. The trail gradually ascends to Mandara Hut, where you'll spend your first night.

Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Elevation: 2,720 meters to 3,720 meters (8,923 feet to 12,205 feet)

Distance: 12 km (7.5 miles)

Hiking Time: 6-8 hours

The trail continues through the forest, transitioning to moorland. You’ll pass by the Maundi Crater and enjoy stunning views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Horombo Hut will be your home for the night.

Day 3: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut

Elevation: 3,720 meters (12,205 feet)

Distance: Short hike for acclimatization

Hiking Time: 3-4 hours

This day is dedicated to acclimatization. You can take a short hike to Zebra Rocks or simply rest at the hut. This extra day significantly improves your chances of reaching the summit.

Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Elevation: 3,720 meters to 4,700 meters (12,205 feet to 15,420 feet)

Distance: 10 km (6.2 miles)

Hiking Time: 6-8 hours

Leaving the moorland behind, you'll enter the Alpine desert zone. The trail is rocky and dry, leading you to Kibo Hut, where you'll rest before the final ascent.

Day 5: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut

Elevation: 4,700 meters to 5,895 meters to 3,720 meters (15,420 feet to 19,341 feet to 12,205 feet)

Distance: 22 km (13.7 miles)

Hiking Time: 10-14 hours

You'll start the final ascent around midnight, aiming to reach Uhuru Peak by sunrise. The path is steep and challenging, but reaching the summit is incredibly rewarding. After celebrating at the top, you'll descend back to Horombo Hut for a well-deserved rest.

Day 6: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

Elevation: 3,720 meters to 1,870 meters (12,205 feet to 6,135 feet)

Distance: 20 km (12.5 miles)

Hiking Time: 5-7 hours

Your final day involves a long descent through the moorland and rainforest back to Marangu Gate. Here, you'll receive your summit certificate and celebrate your achievement before heading back to your hotel.
