Trip

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania

Arrival: Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).

Transfer: Transfer to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha.

Accommodation: Comfortable hotel or lodge in Moshi or Arusha.

Activities: Rest and prepare for the climb; meet your guide for a briefing.


Day 2: Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree Camp)

Elevation: 2,100m to 2,780m (6,890ft to 9,125ft)

Distance: 6 km (4 miles)

Hiking Time: 3-4 hours

Habitat: Rainforest

Description: Drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate for registration. After completing formalities, drive to the trailhead and start the trek through the rainforest to Mti Mkubwa Camp.

Accommodation: Camping at Mti Mkubwa Camp.


Day 3: Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp

Elevation: 2,780m to 3,500m (9,125ft to 11,485ft)

Distance: 8 km (5 miles)

Hiking Time: 5-6 hours

Habitat: Moorland

Description: Continue trekking through the forest before ascending into the moorland zone. Enjoy panoramic views as

you reach Shira Plateau.

Accommodation: Camping at Shira 1 Camp.


Day 4: Shira 1 to Shira 2 Camp

Elevation: 3,500m to 3,850m (11,485ft to 12,630ft)

Distance: 7 km (4.5 miles)

Hiking Time: 3-4 hours

Habitat: Moorland

Description: A gentle hike across the Shira Plateau to Shira 2 Camp. The route provides stunning views of the mountain and its surroundings.

Accommodation: Camping at Shira 2 Camp.


Day 5: Shira 2 to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower

Elevation: 3,850m to 3,900m (12,630ft to 12,795ft)

Distance: 10 km (6.2 miles)

Hiking Time: 6-8 hours

Habitat: Semi-desert

Description: Ascend to Lava Tower at 4,630m (15,190ft) for acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Camp. This day

includes significant altitude changes.

Accommodation: Camping at Barranco Camp.


Day 6: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Elevation: 3,900m to 4,035m (12,795ft to 13,235ft)

Distance: 5 km (3 miles)

Hiking Time: 4-5 hours

Habitat: Alpine desert

Description: Navigate the Barranco Wall, a challenging but non-technical climb, then trek through glacial valleys to Karanga Camp.

Accommodation: Camping at Karanga Camp.


Day 7: Karanga to Barafu Camp

Elevation: 4,035m to 4,640m (13,235ft to 15,220ft)

Distance: 4 km (2.5 miles)

Hiking Time: 4-5 hours

Habitat: Alpine desert

Description: A steady climb to Barafu Camp, the base camp for your summit attempt. Prepare for the early morning summit push.

Accommodation: Camping at Barafu Camp.


Day 8: Barafu to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Elevation: 4,640m to 5,895m (15,220ft to 19,341ft), then down to 3,080m (10,105ft)

Distance: 5 km ascent, 12 km descent (3 miles up, 7.5 miles down)

Hiking Time: 7-8 hours ascent, 4-6 hours descent

Habitat: Arctic, then moorland

Description: Start the summit attempt around midnight, reaching Stella Point and then Uhuru Peak at sunrise. After

celebrating at the summit, descend to Mweka Camp.

Accommodation: Camping at Mweka Camp.


Day 9: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

Elevation: 3,080m to 1,640m (10,105ft to 5,380ft)

Distance: 10 km (6.2 miles)

Hiking Time: 3-4 hours

Habitat: Rainforest

Description: A gentle descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. Receive your summit certificates and transfer back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha.

Day 10: Departure

Morning: Relax at the hotel or explore Moshi/Arusha
