This route typically takes 6-7 days, starting in a remote area with scenic views of the wilderness. The trail passes through diverse landscapes, including lush rainforests, moorlands, and alpine desert. Unlike other routes, the Rongai Route offers a more gentle ascent, which can be advantageous for acclimatization.
Begin your Kilimanjaro adventure at the Rongai Gate, hiking through the lush rainforest and farmlands to reach Rongai Cave, your first campsite.
Continue your ascent, first reaching Second Cave and then continuing on to Kikelewa Cave, situated in the moorland zone.
Hike steeply up a grassy slope to Mawenzi Tarn, your camp for the night, with stunning views of the Mawenzi peak.
Acclimatize by hiking to Mawenzi Ridge and back, taking in the dramatic alpine desert landscape.
Continue your ascent, passing through the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo to reach Kibo Hut, your base camp for the summit attempt.
