After breakfast, your driver guide is ready to pick you up to begin your two-hour journey to Lake Manyara National Park, one of the smallest but most diverse parks in Tanzania. The flat and alkaline Lake Manyara covers a large area of the park and is seasonally home to thousands of flamingos – a breathtaking (pink) sight. However, there are also more than 400 other bird species here as well as some wonderful mammals. Monkey troops inhabit the forests, while giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, and wildebeests roam the grassy plains, and elephants and lions reside in the acacia woodlands. From the open roof of the vehicle, you can watch the animals and enjoy the stunning scenery of the park and its Great Rift Valley. In the evening, you'll drive to Karatu where you'll spend the night. Along the way, you'll stop at the viewpoint of Lake Manyara and enjoy the stunning view of the lake and its surroundings.
After an early breakfast, you'll drive to the entrances of Ngorongoro and start your descent into the crater for the game drive after a few minutes. The Ngorongoro Crater is almost 600 meters deep, about 20 kilometers wide, and the huge caldera is home to an amazing variety of animals. During your game drive, you'll have the opportunity to see all sorts of mammal species, from the Big Five – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhinoceros, and leopard – to Grant's and Thomson's gazelles and mountain reedbuck. You may also see spotted hyenas and some of the area's over 500 bird species. After a picnic lunch in the crater and further game viewing, you'll leave the crater in the afternoon and travel back to Karatu.
After breakfast, you'll pack up and check out of your lodge to continue to Tarangire National Park. We'll drive for about an hour to reach Tarangire Park, which is approximately 67 kilometers away. This park, with its endless grasslands, towering baobab trees, the perennially flowing Tarangire River, and seasonal swamps, is home to the largest elephant herds in northern Tanzania. The animals gather along the river, and you should be able to see elephants, giraffes, bushbucks, impalas, dik-diks, waterbucks, warthogs, and reedbucks all year round. Additionally, the park is also home to buffaloes, zebras, and wildebeests, always closely followed by a range of predators like lions, leopards, and cheetahs, although they are rarely sighted. After an extensive game drive, you'll leave the park and drive back to the city of Arusha.
